The Monaro Car Club of S.A. Inc was established in 1978 and now has a current membership base of over 200. Members vary in age from young people with their first Monaro to more senior members that have owned Monaros for more than 30 years. Then there are members with nothing but just a love of the great car and more recently, members with the new Vx CV6s and CV8s. Recognised as one of the more professional clubs in Adelaide, we provide an interesting and entertaining agenda for members.

The club had humble beginnings in the early 70's in the Mt. Gambier area until its official incorporation in mid 1978 in Adelaide. A small group of enthusiasts paved the way into the 80's where a strong membership base began to form. Over the years, drag racing emerged as one of the more popular events, as the cars were dubbed bad boys toys! Around this time, the club developed a somewhat "wild" reputation amongst the car fraternity and The S.A Police force! (Those days are thankfully long gone). Memberships began to decline, and by the early 90's things were looking rather grim. A successful show for the 25th anniversary of the Monaro was held in '93, but signaled the end of the "old" club, and the start of the new. A fresh approach was needed, and came in the form of several dedicated personnel, who are still members today and started to inject new life into the previously crumbling foundation. By 1995 all past shortcomings had been cast aside and we became one of the fastest growing clubs around and still continue to be so. A friendly social atmosphere was created, where members could meet other people with a common interest. By '97 we were running our own very popular race meetings at A.I.R along with special events every couple of weeks attracting dozens of cars. 1998 saw the club "come of age" with the large core of members enjoying plenty of media attention and excitement as the mighty Munro turned 30 years old! By 2000, the new coupe was just around the corner, along with a new breed of admirers ready to pledge their allegiance. Many of them have joined us, and as the older cars get more treasured and the newer ones get more appreciated, the future looks quite bright indeed!!!

Events range from participation and club displays at numerous car shows including SMASA's annual Show "N" Shine, Mt Gambier's South East Street Machine Show and the biennial Monaro Nationals just to name a few. Club cruises both on Saturday nights and Sundays, BBQ lunches, mid year dinner, Bowling nights, Go-Cart challenge, eight-ball nights, drag racing at AIR and movie dinner nights. The club hosted an "All Monaro Day" car show (with non club members' Monaros welcome) in late November 2003, and then again each November thru 2009 except in 2006 when it made way for the local hosting of the Monaro Nationals in Loxton. Revived in 2011 as the "(SA) Monaro State Titles" it is planned to only be held in the off year from the Nationals (which are held on even numbered years).
